Virtual World
Ecological Footprint

The WAJE Fact Check: Are digital spaces a sustainable alternative for the future?
We all know that: There is no substitute for personal interaction with customers and employees in a successful corporate culture. But is that really always the case? And is there no alternative to getting on a plane and commuting from one appointment to the next? Perhaps we need to change our perspective on the possibilities. Because they are now almost limitless.
We still compare face-to-face meetings, incentives, live events and workshops with a single virtual medium: the online meeting. But in virtual worlds, there are almost unlimited possibilities, from seminars and virtual get-togethers to concerts and virtual workshops (more on this in our Limits blog post).
If we let our imagination run wild, we realize that there are hardly any restrictions. At least the feedback from our customers on the various virtual measures ranges from “positively surprised” to “enthusiastic”.
And now that we have dispelled these doubts and counter-arguments, the question is whether it is still okay to have 300 people traveling across the country for half a day. Yes, we know that servers also consume energy, but especially in these times when the ecological impact of our actions is having a more dramatic effect than ever on our environment and our resources, it is up to each individual to question their personal habits and make their contribution to a better future for our planet. Because every small step makes a difference.
Even in the future, we won't be able to do without every trip and every face-to-face meeting. However, the alternatives are no longer a “toad to swallow”, but exciting possibilities that not only offer added value for your company and follow the zeitgeist, but are also better for our environmental footprint.
And who today still thinks of slippers, scratchy sweaters and tea sessions when they hear the word “eco”...
